If you are looking for the best destinations to discover with your friends or family, these are some places you should check out. Grab some snacks, fill up your tank, and hit the road for a memorable adventure in some of the state’s most idyllic spots.

1. Tampa

The third-largest city in the state of Florida and one of the largest urban areas on the Gulf Coast is one of the most popular day trip destinations among Englewood residents and visitors from all over the country. Having served as an important military center during the 1800s, Tampa is nowadays a major tourist hub, with plenty of local attractions, amusement parks, a beautiful downtown area, and a vibrant gastronomic and cultural scene.

Downtown Tampa is located a little under 85 miles north of the city of Englewood, making it possible to reach it in about one hour and a half along route I-75. Despite the city’s large size, most of the local attractions in Tampa’s downtown area can be easily reached on foot, including the Tampa Riverwalk, Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park, the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and the North Franklin Street Historic District.

2. Everglades National Park

Located about 135 miles south of downtown Englewood, Everglades National Park can be reached in a little over two hours by car, so it is a good idea to hit the road early if you want to enjoy it at its fullest. Considered one of the largest national parks in the United States, this beautiful nature reserve covers an area of about one and a half million acres and welcomes over one million people each year.

Although it is impossible to discover all the wonders that Everglades National Park has to offer in a single day, this place is an excellent spot to unwind and get away from the urban routine. This national park is home to hundreds of different species of fish, birds, mammals, and reptiles, making it a top-rated spot for wildlife watching and photography. Other popular activities include hiking, camping, picnicking, and mountain biking.

3. Myakka River State Park

Covering an area of about 37,000 acres, Myakka River State Park is located about 35 miles northeast of downtown Englewood, making it a great day trip destination that can be reached in less than 45 minutes by car. This lush nature reserve is managed by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection and is one of the oldest parks in the state of Florida. Home to numerous species of rare birds, this place is a perfect spot for wildlife watchers and photographers.
